Tocorimé 10 Day Adventure Details
Day 1: Start Location Paraty. You will be met at the harbour by a Tocorimé crew member and taken by dingy to her. After boarding the Tall Ship Tocorimé there will be a welcome meeting with information about the ship, an outline of the upcoming program and general instructions to make your stay onboard as enjoyable as possible. Dinner will be served and departure will commence as soon as all are present and correct. A crew and passenger watch schedule will be drawn up for those who want to take part in the 24 hour open sea sail to Ilha Bela. Depart Paraty.
Day 2 : You will wake up to the magnificent coastline and fresh ocean waves, the day will be spent aboard learning the skills of tall ship sailing and navigation using olden day methods and modern GPS systems or simply relaxing the day away in a hammock. We arrive at Ilha Bela (Baia de Castalhanos) in the early evening in time for a small hike ashore to take in our local surrounding and watch the sun set, back to the boat for a lavish dinner. Day 3: After breakfast you are free to explore the beautiful beaches, dive, swim and snorkel from the boat and experience the tropical paradise that you are in, above and below water at the beautiful Saco do Sombrio. A lazy lunch will be served whenever it’s required or pack lunches can be arranged for those who want a full day expedition to one of the 360 waterfalls on the island. The evening will see us pulling anchor and sailing the distance to Vila Ilha Bela a quaint village in the next cove. An evening walk around the town followed by drinks and even dinner in the square if requested. Overnight anchor.
Day 4: The boat sets sail at first light to Ilha Anchieta, a small island protected by the national government which has a plethora of natural beauty and wildlife. A visit to the Tamar project, which protects native turtles and their eggs can be arranged as can more inland exploration. In the afternoon we sail towards the town of Ubatuba that nestles between some 74 beaches and 15 islands. A tranquil night can be spent star watching and moon gazing as the waves gently lap at the boat.
Day 5: As the new day gets under way the captain and crew will discuss the possibilities of the day ahead, for those with diving certification an underwater adventure can be organised with a local diving firm (pre-arrangement necessary). The outboard can take passengers to some remote snorkelling spots where you are free to take a picnic and have some individual time. For those who want to learn about the history and building of the unique sailing vessel you are sailing in the captain will be on hand to recount the story of him and four men with a dream deep in the heart of the Amazon. In the afternoon the Tocorimé will sail to Ilha Couves a Deserted Island just for us!!
Day 6: Early morning preparation for departure for Ilha Grande – destination Enseada das Palmas. There will be an excursion to the famous beach of Lopes Mendes voted in the top 10 beaches of the world. Witnessing the sunset at Lopes Mendes is a unforgettable experience. The brief return walk will be met with the preparation of the PIRATES RAID – Beach Party with Barbeque. Anchoring at Enseada das Palmas.
Day 7: A chance to explore the fabulous island retreat of Ilha Grande, this island is soaked in history it was a pirates’ lair then a leper colony and finally a political prison which was decommissioned in the 1980’s. Today the islands exquisite and unspoiled beauty is there to explore with the aid of our outboard tender and crew that have exceptional local knowledge. For those that want to hike a guide will take you ashore to explore the forests and walk around the old prison buildings. The boat leaves Palmas early afternoon and makes the short trip to Abraão village to meet the hiking party. An evening out in the cobbled streets of the village and foraging in the local souvenir shops is yours to do if you wish.
Day 8: We continue out trip to the destination of Lagoa Azul ”Blue Lagoon”, Sítio Forte and Saco do Céu. Delightful small hikes, exquisite beaches and the fulfilling sensation of knowing that you are in one of the most privileged locations on earth, in the evening the sea plankton give a fantastic fluorescent show so a night swim is obligatory.
Day 9: Leave for Mamangua ecological reserve at first light, the 5 hour sail gives you the opportunity to hone the sailing skills you have learnt on the trip and venture up the mast to see the splendour of the Paraty islands spread out before you. As usual lunch will be a grand affair served at your convenience. We enter the emerald green fjord of Mamangua and anchor. You will be presented with the options of a long Rainforest Hike to the Pão de Açucar rocky outcrop with breathtaking 360̊̊̊ view. Here there is an opportunity to rent canoes and explore beaches or a small waterfall trip. As always the snorkelling equipment and boat are there for you to enjoy your time to the fullest. Anchor Mamangua and celebrate your last night aboard with a barbeque party.
Day 10: Early Morning Preparation and departure for Paraty. Lunch will be served before saying your last farewell to the Captain and Crew of the Tocorimé who wish you luck on the next leg of your adventure. Arrival in Paraty by dinghy will allow for a delightful local historical souvenir scavenger hunt while enjoying the sights and sounds of the historical center.

Breakfast: An ample selection of tropical fruits, juices, fresh bread, yogurts, biscuits, with jams, marmalades, cheeses, sliced ham and turkey, cereals and milk, served with fresh coffee and tea.
Lunch: A Starter Salad with Tomatoes, Beets, Onions and other Brazilian Vegetables. Breaded Fish with a delightful Shrimp Sauce, served with white Rice and Potato Purée. For desert; Passion Fruit Mousse
Dinner: Manjoica Soup with Freshly Stewed Beef served with Bread. Desert; Banana - Caramel Sauce.
Snacks: Brazilian Sweets, Hot Chocolate, Biscuits, Cakes and an abundance of Fruits.
All meals served with Water, Juice, Tea and Coffee. Alcoholic Drinks available.
What to Pack for your stay onboard the Tocorimé - As little as possible, Brazil is very hot – where we sail even the winter temperatures never get below 14 Celsius. The Tocorimé supplies basic sleeping and toilet amenities.

2. Solid walking shoes or comfortable trainers to walk in.
3. Wind-Rain Jacket and Light Sweater with a Cap or Hat
4. Clothes Change for a Relaxing Evening Out.

Refrain from packing fancy jewels, watches and other attention getting things, the more you blend into the culture – the more you will enjoy it. The Tocorimé is a safe haven in all regards.
Spending Money - On the trip we will visit some small beach hut bars and have excursions into small fishing villages where you will be responsible for purchasing your own food and drinks, but during the voyage you will mainly be in areas where there is little or no commerce what so ever. The Tocorimé has a range of branded polo shirts and hammocks for you to purchase as a memento of your trip.
Trip Preparation - Please contact your physician, or travel clinic for the most up-to-date health requirements. All countries require a valid passport (with minimum 6 months validity). Contact your local embassy, or consulate for the most up-to-date visa requirements, or see your travel agent. IT’S YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO HAVE THE CORRECT TRAVEL DOCUMENTATION.
Travel Insurance - Travel insurance including emergency evacuation coverage (& repatriation up to US$75,000) is compulsory. You will not be permitted to participate in the trip until your group leader has seen evidence of travel insurance coverage.
Health - The nature of the trip is an activity holiday, passengers must be able to walk unassisted on their own and carry their own luggage. Passengers will be expected to climb in and out of the dingy up a small ladder onto the boat.
Accommodation / Around the boat - Tocorimé: Deck – There is a large deck with space for hanging hammocks, sleeping on the bowsprit, bar facilities, besides the helms area which sits comfortably 10 people First Level Deck – A Large common area seating 16 people for meals and get-togethers. To the side is the Navigation Room and the Tocorimé writing area. Second Level – A great saloon with seating area for up to 45 people, more forward are the guests sleeping accommodations which are set in a comfortable historical Wooden Tall Ship atmosphere; 4 single berths and 6 double berths hosting 16 guests. The sleeping accommodations are set in one large common area.
The Brazilian Tall Ship Tocorimé has 550 ft2 of sail and a 320 HP Mercedes-Benz Diesel Engine, this guarantees safe-passage to all our intended destinations. As auxiliary transport there is the 15ft durable inflatable dinghy with rigid bottom and 35 hp outboard engine, taking us to even the most remote locations.
Arrival Information - Rio de Janeiro – Paraty. 4 hour bus journey - Cost - 40 Real. Transportation from Rio or São Paulo to Paraty can be arranged by Tocorimé with an additional charge otherwise Independent organisation of travel to Paraty is required. Contact us.
Arrival Instructions - Tocorime based in Marina do Engenho, Paraty. All guests will be met by a representative of the Tocorimé at the beginning of the Main Parati Harbour (Pier Principal do Paraty) from 12 mid day. If arriving by Bus from Rio its a 10 min walk or a R$15 taxi ride to the harbour from the bus station. From there all Guests will be taken to the Tocorimé by Zodiac.
